John Lehner retired from a Senior Scientist position in the Nuclear Science & Technology Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in Upton, NY. He was a key technical contributor in a broad spectrum of research activities during a 40-year career at BNL. He led a group that made major contributions in a variety of projects that advanced the state of knowledge of nuclear reactor accident analysis, with emphasis on the modeling of accident progression, and in devising strategies to arrest or mitigate such accidents. He contributed to both the deterministic analysis of such accidents and to the application of probabilistic risk assessment to gauge the likelihood and severity of accidents involving nuclear reactors and other complex systems. He still consults on occasion, and continues as a member of an ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Code Writing Group.

Mr. Lehner graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science from Stanford University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Pennsylvania.

A member of the Board of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk since 2016, John Lehner currently serves as Vice President of the Board. He also serves on the Environmental Committee of the community where he lives.
