Here at CCE, we are so proud of our 4-H members who are working with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology on an ambitious project at a 100-acre thicket here in Suffolk. This group will clean up the space, build screech owl nest boxes, plant gardens, develop signage and produce written materials to inform the community in and help keep motorized vehicles out.  Combining art, media, technology and physical work the youth will be making real-life connections to the surrounding community members and gaining unique experiences in public speaking and the STEM fields. Students participating are being awarded free registration into the 2012 Environmental Science Career Exploration Program coordinated by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County. Students will also have the opportunity to present their project at New York State Fair at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and make connections with the university.
