Freshwater Investigators

Aquatic Biology isn’t just saltwater, its freshwater too! This new course offers older campers an introduction into Long Island’s freshwater world. Freshwater Investigators is designed to immerse your child’s passion for ponds, lakes, and streams. This program will include nature walks to Fuchs Pond Preserve, kicked up a few notches…we will identify plant and bird life (and everything in-between) along the way. We will conduct a Pond study on Macroinvertebrates throughout the week, to better understand the water quality of Fuchs Pond. This new research opportunity will allow campers a first-hand experience in learning how to set up an experiment, collect data, and analyze their findings! Leaf-pack data collection, microscope analysis, and macroinvertebrate identification, are a few of the new techniques we will learn while exploring this productive freshwater ecosystem.

This session will help your child understand how all waterways are interconnected, understanding the full scope of Long Island’s marine life!

NEW! We will also take a trip to the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium to learn more about the extensive collection of fishes, amphibians and reptiles native to New York State! Specifically, campers will observe the amazing attributes of trout at all stages of development.
