Creating Healthy Places in Suffolk County is a community project that is a part of a state wide initiative funded to the Family Health and Wellness Program area of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County by the New York State Department of Health. Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play contractors across the state are working to prevent obesity and type 2 diabetes by making it easier to access healthier food choices and increase physical activity. In Suffolk County we are creating policy, systems and environmental changes in collaborating towns of our target communities where physical activity and healthy food is not commonplace or easy to access.
Thank you for your interest in making Suffolk County a healthier place to live, work and play. The programs, projects and partners have been working for over a year of our five year contract with the NYS Department of Health with several strategies focusing on community gardens, farmers markets, neighborhood trails and parks, early child care centers, after school care programs, and small grocery, delis.
