accommodations

Rustic but comfortable. All campers live in cabins with at least two counselors. Bunk and cabin assignments are made according to a child's date of birth, grade level, and date of registration. Campers must provide their own linens (towels, pillow, sheets and blanket or sleeping bag). Bathroom facilities with hot, private showers are centrally located.

campus

Peconic Dunes is located on the beautiful North Fork on the Long Island Sound. The unique setting includes a 30-acre freshwater pond, one mile of beachfront on the Long Island Sound, hardwood forests and rolling sand dunes. Its biodiversity (varied natural resources and geological features) is ideally suited for outdoor education. Our Great Pond wetlands have been described as globally rare.

drop off/pickup

Overnight Campers:
Campers should be dropped off at 1:30 pm on Sunday and picked up promptly at 9:30 am the following Saturday.

Day Campers:
Campers should be dropped off at 8:45 am Monday through Friday and picked up at 5:00 pm.

health & safety

Professional health providers will be on campus 24 / 7 to dispense medications and tend to emergencies. Waterfront staff members are Red Cross certified and possess credentials as water safety instructors and lifeguards. All staff are trained in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Epi Pen Assistance. The camp is inspected twice yearly by the Suffolk County Department of Health. Accommodations for persons with disabilities may be requested by calling Melissa or Chris at 631-727-7850 or 631-852-8629 at least two weeks prior to scheduled arrival to ensure sufficient time to make appropriate arrangements. Requests received after this date will be met when possible.

meals

Everyday, campers are served a family style breakfast, lunch and dinner developed by a registered nutritionist. Meals are prepared onsite by our professional staff to reflect a variety of choices and tastes. Vegetarian options are always available. Every Friday campers enjoy an outdoor barbeque.

staff

Peconic Dunes Camp maintains a camp-wide staff to camper ratio of 1:4. Staff members selected to work at Peconic Dunes are hired based on their experience working with children, safety and skill certifications and experience in their given speciality.

laundry

There are no laundry facilities for campers' use. Campers should pack enough clothes for the entire week of camp. In the event of an emergency, the staff will arrange laundry service for a camper. Laundry service will be provided to campers registered for Extender Weekends.
