Health Assistant - Overnight

Job Location: Peconic Dunes 4-H Camp, Southold, NY

Brief Summary: The Health Assistant is responsible for carrying out a program of health and safety as planned by the Health Director. She/he supervises all health and sanitation at camp when the Health Director is not available. These duties are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties will be assigned as required.

Specific Responsibilities:
• Maintain campers' heath records and medicines.
• Administer medicines and treatment to campers according to physicians' orders and keep records of all such treatments.
• Maintains camper's confidential medical history
• Assists Health Director with initial health screening of campers and daily health surveillance of camp occupants
• Handles health emergencies and injuries, including emergency preparedness and provisions for professional health care
• Maintains camp's daily medical log
• Reports required incidents to local health department within 24 hours

Minimum Qualifications: RN, LPN, or EMT and licensed to practice in New York State. Certified in American Red Cross (or equivalent) Responding to Emergencies and Professional Rescuer CPR. Willing to stay overnight in Camp Health Center.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience or background in camp, school, visiting or public health nursing.

Work Schedule: 5:00pm - 9:00am, 3-4 days/week
