Camp Counselor, Suffolk County Farm, Yaphank, NY

Position Summary:

Supervise campers and ensure their safety at all times. Assist with day-to-day operations of the Suffolk County Farm and Education Center Camp programs.Directly interact with the camper's parents and guardians.Assist camp educators with programs in animal science, environmental science, and agriculture.Maintain camp facilities. Promote the development of a community-oriented camp culture that emphasizes empathy, continuous improvement, and high performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 months volunteer or work experience.
  • Paid or volunteer experience working with children or the public.
  • Ability to understand and carry out educational program tasks and objectives.
  • Ability to work outdoors performing various types of educational and physical activities.
  • Have an appreciation and understanding of the natural environment.
  • Must be able to work for the full camp season. This includes training before camp and wraps up after camp has ended.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional education and training in the field of education.
  • Additional education in environmental science, horticulture, animal science, agriculture, or natural science.
  • Some teaching experience.
  • Ability to assist with teaching and a keen interest in educating youth.
  • Leadership abilities.
  • A positive and energetic attitude.

POSITION DETAILS full summer ONLY:

Salary: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour (rate based on experience)

Hours: 40 hours per week

Benefits: No Benefits
