Farm Educator

Suffolk County Farm Educator, Yaphank NY

Position Summary:

Train educators to prepare and present all programs offered in the most current Programs for Youth brochure, both on the farm and in schools, libraries, and other community settings. Schedule staff to perform programs as well as assist in preparation and teach programs when needed. Assist with birthday parties, family programs, festivals, special events, and day-to-day operations of Farm Education programs.


  • Bachelor’s or Equivalent Education in field related to child and family well-being, including but not limited to: Youth Development, Human Ecology, Family and Consumer Sciences, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Education or related field.Associates Degree and 2 years transferrable program experience is acceptable.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle screen, including valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to maintain and handle live farm animals for educational and demonstration purposes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written and visual channels using traditional methods and educational tools.


  • Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations.

Part-Time: Non-exempt – 25 hours a week

Salary Range: $17.00 - $17.50 per hour
