Title of Position: Maintenance Assistant

Job Location: Peconic Dunes 4-H Camp, Southold, NY

Brief Summary: Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Assistant maintain, repair and refurbishes elements of the camp’s physical environment to protect the health and safety of the campers and staff. The Maintenance Assistant will support a wide variety of operations related to facilities management and demanding maintenance, including but not limited to: grounds keeping, moving and storage, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, small motor repair, fire safety, sanitation, pest control, food service support, and housekeeping. The Maintenance Assistant may also provide support to program staff. The Maintenance Assistant will also be responsible for maintain inventory in facilities and housekeeping areas and will notify the Facilities Manger when any supply is running low or when equipment or facilities, requires repair or replacement.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with NYS Department of Labor regulations. Valid driver’s license and able to pass DMV screen. Experience and skill in one or more trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc. Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted, climb and work from ladders, and be comfortable with heights. Knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook in Windows and Mac systems. Able to work weekends and evenings as needed.

Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years of related work experience in building trades. Coursework/training in building trades. Willingness to support off-hour facilities-related emergencies during the week and weekends. Able to operate a variety of vehicles, equipment and tools.

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday 8 am – 430 pm with a half hour break

Starting June 24: Sunday – Thursday 8 am – 430 pm with a half hour break

Salary Range: Non-Exempt, $16 per hour

Benefits: Medical Benefits, Vacation and Sick time

Date Position Available: March 1, 2018 – October 31, 2018
