Wage: $16.00 - $18.00/hour (depending on qualifications).

Position Summary:

Camp Director will implement all associated tasks related to camp programming and other administrative duties. Supervision of Head Counselors, Counselors and CIT’s while assigning tasks.Management of camp staff, camper supervision and daily routine activities associated with the running of the camp, including: planning, directing and carrying out all camp activities and implementing camp fire, safety and health plans. The Camp Director will plan and conduct lessons, crafts, and activities to campers ages 6-14. The Camp Director must supervise campers and manage staff during various activities both indoors and outdoors, including: Fuchs Pond walks (using walkie-talkies), beach and field-trip activities, lessons, games and arts and crafts. The Camp Director is responsible for lesson, activity, craft and field-trip preparation before and after camp hours (including cleaning and care of the facility and/or aquaria). The Camp Director communicates with parents of campers during daily check-in and sign-out as well as throughout the day, if necessary and during Open House hours on Fridays.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a recognized college/university.
  • 2 years related work experience and at least 1 year of experience working with children.
  • Ability to learn and lead educational experiences and activities.
  • Ability to understand and carry out educational program tasks and objectives.
  • Ability and desire to work with children.
  • Ability to supervise a small group of children.
  • Ability to supervise CIT participants.
  • Ability to understand and implement written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work outdoors performing various types of educational and physical activities.
  • Ability to learn marine science and natural science subject matter.
  • Ability to work with and touch live animals (marine organisms, fish, reptiles, etc.).
  • Ability to handle health and safety issues and/or emergency situations.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of job, such as light hiking expeditions to Fuchs Pond and Asharoken beach seining.
  • Ability to communicate with camp participants’ parents.
  • Flexible scheduling of work week as required by ongoing operations.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards, if required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Marine biology or environmental science background.
  • Aquarium and/or animal care experience.
  • Current CPR/AED and/or First Aid certification or higher, or equivalent.
  • Lifeguard Certifications.

Other: Position is seasonal. 35-40 hours per week. Need to be available starting two weeks prior to the start of camp and the duration of the camp season (June 19th-August 18th). Monday-Friday.
