  • Provides individual consultations for professionals on horticulture topics related to trees, shrubs, and perennials in the nursery or landscape
  • Develops outreach publications
  • Coordinates regional conferences and educational programs
  • Presents on various horticulture topics at local industry meetings and educational events

    Notice: NEW Blight Ravages Boxwoods

    A new, aggressive, exotic disease called Boxwood Blight is now affecting all species of boxwood on Long Island and other areas of the US. If you see bare twigs on your boxwood this winter, send a sample to the LI Horticultural Research & Extension Center at 3059 Sound Ave. Riverhead / 631-727-3595 to ID the pathogen and slow the spread of this serious disease.     "Protecting Our Water Resources"

    Sponsored by Nassau and Suffolk Soil and Water Conservation Districts, this 1st annual conference and expo will facilitate the successful use of green technologies to manage stormwater. General and technical information on cost-effective green infrastructure techniques that increase stormwater infiltration and prevent adverse impacts to Long Island's valuable water resources will be presented.     • Who Should Attend: landscape architects, regional planners and developers, municipal engineers, building and public works department employess, and anyone else who is interested in learning how to protect our water resources!

    • Landscape architecture continuing education credit hours will be provided in Courses of Learning - HSW to New York State registered landscape architects through Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, a New York State Education Department approved provider (number of credits is pending).
