Emerald ash borer (EAB), is an exotic beetle whose larvae feed on the inner bark of ash trees, disrupting the tree's ability to transport water and nutrients.  Emerald ash borer probably arrived in the United States in cargo ships or airplanes originating in its native Asia, and was found in southwestern New York State in June of 2009.  In July of 2010, it was found for the first time in the Catskill region of NY and is expected to spread to Long Island.  Since its introduction, more than 53 million ash trees have died or are dying from Emerald ash borer attack in the United States.  More than 7.5 billion ash trees remain at risk.  One of the best ways to slow its spread is to not move untreated firewood.  For more information, visit: www.emeraldashborer.info
