Overnight Safety Officer

Job Location: Peconic Dunes 4-H Camp, Southold, NY
Brief Summary: The Overnight Safety Officer works 11:00 pm - 7:00 am, Monday night through Saturday morning. Overnight Safety Officers are responsible for securing the Peconic Dunes campus, including the main entrance. Safety will be maintained with campus sweeps, interacting with all persons, and maintaining a duty log documenting all activities coming and going from the campus. Overnight Safety Officers primarily interact with staff. Overnight Safety Officers are expected to present themselves and communicate in a professional manner at all times, treating people with respect and always attempt to deescalate tense situations. These duties are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties will be assigned as required.
Specific Responsibilities: Overnight Safety Officers interact with overnight counselors leaving and returning to campus during their personal time off. In addition to documenting everyone who leaves and returns to campus, it is also imperative for the Overnight Safety Officers to assess if staff are able to return to work, or need to report to the Health Center for further evaluation. In every case, Overnight Safety Officers treat people with respect and always attempt to deescalate tense situations.
Overnight Safety Officers are required to document the occurrences of every shift, whether eventful or not. Forms will be provided, though certain incidents will require a written narrative describing as much objective detail as possible.
Minimum Qualifications: 21-years-old or over. High school diploma. NYS 8 hr Security Guard Training Certification.
Preferred Qualifications: 1-year job related experience at school, university, etc., or Police / Military background, active or retired.
Work Schedule: Monday - Saturday, 11pm - 7am (5 nights/week)
