When her children were young, Louann Roth loved to visit the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank, a tradition she continues with her grandchildren. Here’s where Louann also completed 125 volunteer hours after finishing Master Gardener Training. Louann went to Ithaca to pick up the Vegetable Varietal Trials that Cornell University was testing throughout New York State. After setting up the Trial Garden at Suffolk County Farm, Louann renovated the Herb Garden there which had been designed by Master Gardeners in 2005. Her addition of medicinal and culinary herb beds enables the new and improved Herb Garden to go beyond beautification and become an educational destination for the community.Programs are planned for the near future. In addition to her contributions at the Suffolk County Farm, Louann is a member of the MG Advisory Committee which gives her an opportunity to share insights with Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE). She has been a speaker on “Seed Saving” at Spring Gardening School and on “Winter Seed Sowing” at Suffolk libraries for the Community Horticulture Speakers Bureau. Lou Ann, who makes her home in Patchogue, is also a member of the Herb Society of America. LouAnn Roth has enjoyed being a Master Gardener for the past six seasons. She quotes Audrey Hepburn, “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow." These words resonant with these times. |
