Brief Summary: A Trip Leader at Peconic Dunes 4-H Camp is responsible for leading Extender Weekend trips. Extender Weekends begin 9:30am on Saturday and conclude 1:30pm on Sunday. Extender Weekends include an off-campus day trip with up to 40 campers, a co-Trip Leader, and 2 additional counselors to supervise.
Be available to attend and participate in All-Staff Training, and entire camp program. Be prepared to flexibly adapt to the diverse situations that arise at a co-ed, residential summer camp. Continuously reinforce policies and procedures found in the Peconic Dunes' Risk Management Manual. Speak and behave in a professional manner with staff, children, parents, visitors, et cetera, at all times. Support a community-oriented camp culture that emphasizes empathy, continuous improvement, and high performance. These duties are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties will be assigned as required.
Specific Responsibilities: All counselors at Peconic Dunes 4-H Camp serve as both cabin counselor (JC, SC or Unit Leader) and activity specialist (instructor, coordinator or program director). The Trip Leader is a special weekend position and should be paired with both a counselor and instructor position description.
Minimum Qualifications: Department of Health requires individuals to be 21 years of age or older for this position. Possess NYS Defensive Driving Certification through an approved course. One-year experience leading others.
Preferred Qualifications: Current certification in American Red Cross CPR, Responding to Emergencies, and lifeguard.
Work Schedule: June 11 - August 18, 2012, 2 hours off/day, 1 day off/week
