The Nutrition Program Assistant is a member Community Education Program Team. Responsible for supporting educational program needs, assisting in delivering program goals and objectives, and planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for adults, youth and seniors . This individual represents Cornell Cooperative Extension's Community Education programs to the public, community leaders, government officials, and Cornell University as part of program delivery. Funded under USDA grant. Applicant must be fluent bi-lingual in oral & written English/Creole.

The responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not be limited to, the following Specific Duties:

  • Under supervision assist- support /translate nutrition workshops in various settings , virtual and face to face for low-income communities.
  •  Ability to assist in all data collection and paperwork.
  • Ability to provide reports
  •  Promote recruiting and enrolling groups from community agencies.
  • Assist in teaching groups, food preparation skills , and using prepared lesson plans and curriculum
  •  Attend staff /in-service training as assigned.
  •  Flexible work hours including weekend and evenings.
  •  Ability to travel to various sites in long-Island
  •  Other duties as assigned.


Serve as a member of the Community Education Program responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of an ongoing project. This individual represents Cornell Cooperative Extension's Community Education Program to the public, community leaders, government officials, and Cornell University as part of program delivery. Several state and federal grants fund this position. The Program Assistant will work as a team member with existing Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) staff, including specialists and educators. Will receive direction and guidance on daily work activities from Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and 2 year’s experience work /volunteer relevant to the role of this position.
  • Fluent in oral & written English and Creole
  • Ability to communicate daily activities, program progress to Supervisor.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional tools and methods and electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to follow procedures and written instructions.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, sound professional judgment, and the ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficient with windows-based software, including the use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.
  • Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate Supervisor.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position
  • Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community, and professional leaders.
  • Ability to identify and utilize program resources from the organization and the community.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Administrative Responsibilities:

Coordination/Operation – 95%

  • Provide non­­complex routine administrative tasks to support the delivery of established educational program goals.
  • Use of existing resources to accomplish program goals.
  • Maintain communication with stakeholders and the community through various methods such as phone calls, e-mails, and electronic technology.
  • Provide information as directed by Supervisor regarding preparing and presenting reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others, as necessary.

Professional Improvement – 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

POSITION DETAILS:

Salary: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour, 0-20 hours per week

Other: The position is a part-time, temporary employment

Location Community Sites in Long Island
