DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Veterinary Medicine Career Exploration program is open to all high school students in grades 10-12.This is NOT a hands-on program. This program includes:Lecture Series on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:45pm at the Suffolk County Farm and Education Center, in the Agriculture Exhibit Hall.February 11, 2026 February 25, 2026 March 4, 2026 March 11, 2026 March 18, 2026Veterinarian Shadowing Experience (must be completed prior to the last meeting)Tour of Cornell Cooperative Extension Suffolk County Farm and Education Center: Choose either Feb 28 or March 8, 2026Lecture topic examples:Veterinary colleges and admissions information Small &amp; companion animal medicine Integrative medicine Veterinary Technology Zoo medicine &amp; exotics Specializations in: Lab Animal Medicine, Emergency &amp; Critical Care, Zoo Medicine &amp; ExoticsTo receive a Certificate of Completion, students must fulfill all requirements, including completing the shadowing experience and having no more than one absence (including the farm tour). Program graduates are eligible for the LIVMA Veterinary School scholarship.Pre-registration is required. Registration will open January 7th.Programs can be cancelled up to ten days prior to the first scheduled date without penalty. There will be a $50 cancellation fee with less than 10 days notice. All programs are offered rain or shine. Cancellations are at the discretion of the Suffolk County Farm. Refunds are offered if the Suffolk County Farm cancels a program.Please email Kate Perz, 4-H Animal Science Program Coordinator, at kp99@cornell.edu with any questions or accommodation requests.
