Senior Nutritionist, Long Island Region of NY

The Senior Nutritionist is responsible for providing leadership and a high level of disciplinary knowledge in planning, coordination, and implementation of public education to improve health and wellness among individuals and families and encompassing all age groups throughout long Island in Community Education and issues for the public, in areas of Nutrition, Health, and Wellness.Represents Cornell Cooperative Extension Association before the public, community leaders, government officials, and Cornell University.This position also helps develop and implement social marketing and environmental change initiatives in collaboration with other nutritionists in the Long Island region.

This person is also expected to secure grants and outside funding to support the Program's educational priorities under the direction of the supervisor for the Long Island Region Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP-Ed), Nutrition Education, and Obesity Prevention.The SNAP-Ed program is grant-funded through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Federal Food and Nutrition Services (FNS). Reports and receives supervision and guidance from the Community Education Sr. Issue Leader, Program Advisory Committee, and Board of Directors.May supervise or coordinate the activities of other professionals and clerical staff within the Program.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree required in Nutrition/Health Education or Public Health or related field.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Advanced knowledge of subject-matter principles, theory, and research in Nutrition
  • Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, teach, and evaluate informal adult/youth educational programs for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using a digital platform and oral, written, and visual channels using traditional tools and methods and electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to define, conduct, and interpret original and applied research/demonstration projects.
  • Highly developed personal skills to relate effectively with co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders, targeted audiences, faculty, and researchers.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse individuals and groups of various ages, gender, ethnic backgrounds, educational levels, and learning abilities.
  • Demonstrated practical skills in grant writing and budgeting.
  • Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts
  • Proven ability to utilize innovative program delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrated experience in low-income audiences.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Dietetics with current Registration status as RD.
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the Cornell Cooperative Extension system is preferred.Experience in CCE at the Management and program level is preferred.Experience administering financial, personnel, and other related CCE policies preferred.
  • Familiarity with the community where the work will take place and ability to utilize program resources within the community.

POSITION DETAILS:

Salary: $60,000.00 - $62,000.00 annually

Schedule: Exempt (40+ hours per week)
