Our Programs

Youth are challenged to develop their skills and knowledge in our numerous activities such as: STEM, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, snorkeling, wilderness skills, backcountry cooking, fishing, archery, leadership skills, theater arts, music, multimedia, adventure trail, soccer, and and/or basketball. Each evening has a special event planned including: opening and closing campfires, talent show, dance, and Turtle Games (Peconic Dunes’ version of color war). Camp runs Sunday through Saturday. Programming varies slightly based on age, weather, and enrollment.

Note: All sessions end Saturday morning. Registering for two weeks does NOT include Saturday night. If you want your child to stay overnight on Saturday you must register for the Super Saturday between the two weeks to create consecutive sessions. Super Saturday must FOLLOW your child’s week at camp; campers cannot begin camp on Saturday. There is no Super Saturday at the end of week 4. See below for more information.

Counselors in Training (CITs) experience 4 weeks at Peconic Dunes learning American Red Cross waterfront lifeguarding, Professional Rescuer CPR, and first aid. Lifeguard certificates are only issued for successfully passing both the written and physical test. Guided by experienced counselors, CITs apprentice in activities to learn how to demonstrate and evaluate skills by teaching younger campers. CITs also receive resume writing and interviewing workshops. On the weekend, CITs spend the day off-site visiting a local attraction, including an overnight camping trip and canoeing on the Peconic River. Interested youth must apply for acceptance into the CIT program and be interviewed by a member of the Peconic Dunes leadership team. Spaces are limited and submitting an application does not guarantee participation in the program. All applications for 2019 are due no later than November 1, 2018. To apply click here .

Based on the US Sailing Small Boat Sailor in Light Air (5-14 mph) certification program, we'll get you tacking and jibing on the LI Sound. While all campers are striving for certification, our goal is to use the standards to help campers develop a solid foundation. Our sailing instructors come from around the world to offer small group instruction on Sunfish and Laser sailboats.

Note: Space is limited and available on a first come first serve basis. Sailing is subject to weather conditions including high winds, rough seas, and heavy rain and may be cancelled or modified as needed.
