Anglers Needed!

The Fisheries Department at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County (CCE) is looking for commercial and for-hire fishermen to take 1 to 2 of our scientists out on the water to catch striped bass for our PCB and other contaminants study. Your help is invaluable, as we understand that you know these waters and the behaviors of striped bass better than we do. We are offering a flat rate of $350 plus $50 for each fish we collect. We have all the necessary permits to collect any number of fish ranging from 20” to 38” and one trophy (greater than 38”) per zone.

This study will examine the presence and levels of contaminants, such as PCBs and PFAS, in striped bass. We will need to collect 5 to 7 striped bass in and around New York Harbor (a detailed map of the study zones is on the back of this notice) every month from April through November. Any method of capture is permitted. If you would be interested in supporting this study, CCE will pay you a negotiated charter fee. Please feel free to contact Amanda Dauman or Michael Bowen about any interest or questions about the project.
