About Us

Cornell Cooperative Extension's Stewardship Program works with Suffolk County's farmers to address environmental issues related to the leaching of nitrogen fertilizer and pesticides into our groundwater, which is the region's sole source aquifer. By introducing on-farm projects the Stewardship Program demonstrates the costs and benefits of adopting new technology and best management strategies that will protect the environment while maintaining the agricultural industry's economic viability. Since 2004, the program has worked in conjunction with Cornell University and CCE's agricultural specialists to provide the commercial agricultural industry a comprehensive program of research, education and on-farm demonstration projects.
