2023 Veterinary Medicine Career Exploration Program

The 2023 Veterinary Medicine Career Exploration program is now virtual, and is open to all high school students (9th - 12th grade).

This is NOT a hands-on program. This program includes:

  • Lecture Series on Thurs evenings 7:00-8:45pm via Zoom
    • February 16, 2023
    • March 2, 2023
    • March 9, 2023
    • March 16, 2023
    • March 23, 2023
  • Veterinarian Shadowing Experience (pending current COVID-19 status)
  • Tour of Cornell Cooperative Extension Suffolk County Farm and Education Center: March 4 or March 12, 2023

Lecture topic examples:

  • Veterinary colleges and admissions information
  • Large & mixed animal practices
  • Poultry & production medicine
  • Small & companion animal medicine
  • Zoo medicine & exotics
  • Specializations in: Lab Animal Medicine, Emergency & Critical Care, Animal Behavior

Student receives Certificate of Completion if requirements are fulfilled (only 1 absence allowed, tour and shadowing experience included). Program graduates eligible for LIVMA Veterinary School Scholarship.

Pre-registration is required. Registration for the program opens December 12th, 2022.


Programs can be cancelled up to ten days prior to the first scheduled date without penalty. There will be a $50 cancellation fee with less than 10 days notice. All programs are offered rain or shine. Cancellations are at the discretion of the Suffolk County Farm. Refunds are offered if the Suffolk County Farm cancels a program.
