In America today, student nutrition issues are a major concern of educators, health professionals, parents, and community members. Both in high need and affluent communities, student food choices are often problematic. EVERY child (and parent) needs healthy food---including vegetables and fruits---for good health in mind and body!
A coalition of Long Island organizations listed below is working to make a difference by introducing educational programs designed to promote good nutrition in schools. These initiatives include a new “Farm to Table Program.” Students involved in Farm to Table will visit a farm at Old Bethpage Village and have the opportunity to pick and sample fresh produce, and learn how fresh farm products can be integrated into their diets on an ongoing basis. This initiative stresses proactive good health at its best, and is sustainable, local, and transformative. JOIN US and learn how Long Island agriculture can make a difference in the lives of your students and your school!
THE WORKSHOP OVERVIEW: To explore how agriculture and nutrition curricula and activities can be integrated into K–12 schools.
