Bilingual Nutritionist - Brooklyn and Queens, NY
The Bilingual Nutritionist position plans, delivers, and conducts the implementation of public education and Policy System and Environmental (PSE) work to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among - SNAP and SNAP eligible families and individuals encompassing all age groups throughout the Brooklyn and Queens. As part of the Long Island Brooklyn and Queens Region SNAP-Ed Program. This position works closely with NYC Cornell University Cooperative Extension team as well as all the regional team of Nutrition Educators and the Project Director to assist in program delivery, development, assessment, evaluation, management and marketing. Work as an Extension Association team member in addressing local, regional, and statewide programming priorities. This individual represents Cornell Cooperative Extension's Community Education programs to the public, community leaders, government officials, and Cornell University as part of program delivery.
The SNAP program is grant-funded through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Federal Food and Nutrition Services (FNS).
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to speak, read and write proficiently in one or more languages such as Spanish, Haitian Creole , Bengali .
- Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Nutrition, Public Health or Health Education, appropriate to the responsibilities of the position, and a minimum of 1 year related work or volunteer experience providing nutrition or health education to target audiences.
- Ability to deliver plan, organize, implement and present effective and relevant educational lessons to target audiences in group settings, and work with diverse audiences of all ages.
- Ability to work independently, and also work effectively as a professional team member within the regional program.
- Must be able to purchase and prepare foods, utilizing business expense account and pragmatic use of resources.
- Must be able to review and follow recipes and assure compliance to federal and state guidelines.
- Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional tools , including marketing the SNAP-Ed program and use of social media methods and electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).
- Detail-oriented. Ability to follow procedures and written instructions.
- Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
- Proficient with windows-based software, including the use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.
- Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.
- Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor.
- Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community, and professional leaders.
- Ability to identify and utilize program resources from the organization and the community.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to carry supplies and equipment, climb stairs with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and conference attendance with overnight travel.
- Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Registered Dietitian
- Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place and ability to utilize program resources within the community
- Familiarity with a variety of program delivery methods to reach individuals and groups in youth and adult audiences and ability to integrate youth and adult development principles into educational activities.
- Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations.
- Grant writing experience
POSITION DETAILS:
Salary: $27-31 per hour
Schedule: NON-EXEMPT – Reg: 35 hours per week
