Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) can be defined as a system for assembling,
manipulating, and analyzing geographically referenced information. It brings
together various types of information for the purpose of managing resources and
solving complex problems. GIS tools and software have numerous applications throughout the Marine Program,
including watershed analyses, water quality monitoring, fishery and wildlife
management, and habitat restoration.
